Radiographic Testing (RT):

 

 

Midwest Industrial X-Ray offers traditional radiographic services on both in house laboratory facilities and in mobile laboratories that can be dispatched as needed. Whether your radiographic needs are code related weld products, castings, or profile radiography for wall thickness measurement, Midwest Industrial X-Ray  has the tools, resources and personnel to assure that your needs can be satisfied. Our laboratory dark room trucks are fully equipped to not only perform the radiographic operations and ability to process the film onsite, but our trucks are also equiped for penetrant, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic inspections. Personnel that are employed to provide radiographic services are typically technicians with many years of experience in the NDT field and are multi-disciplined.

Radiography has a wide range of applications, from weld defect evaluation to profile views used for locating corrosion and blockages.  Radiography is also used to determine concrete contents prior to core drilling and sawcutting.

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT):

 

Magnetic particle inspection is a nondestructive testing method that is fast and relatively easy to apply and part surface preparation is not as critical as it is for some other NDT methods. 

Magnetic particle inspection uses magnetic fields and small magnetic particles, such as iron filings to detect flaws in components. The only requirement from an inspectability standpoint is that the component being inspected must be made of a ferromagnetic material such iron, nickel, cobalt, or some of their alloys. Ferromagnetic materials are materials that can be magnetized to a level that will allow the inspection to be effective.

The method is used to inspect a variety of product forms such as castings, forgings, and weldments. Many different industries use magnetic particle inspection for determining a component's fitness-for-use. Some examples of industries that use magnetic particle inspection are the structural steel, automotive, petrochemical, power generation, and aerospace industries.

Ultrasonic Testing (UT):

     Ultrasound is a proven technology well recognized as providing a high level of accuracy if skillfully performed. It is commonly relied upon as an inspection and diagnostic tool in aviation, aerospace, power generation, nuclear, petrochemical, processing, strucural, and other highly critical applications.  

      As a nondestructive testing procedure, ultrasound neither damages nor alters the material inspected. The  systems can be in operation, and either filled or empty. There are no safety concerns for either operator or building staff, as exist with x-ray.

Thickness :
    Ultrasonic testing, or UT Thickness in this case, is the procedure of introducing a high frequency sound wave into the exterior side of a pipe or specimen, and reflecting the sound wave from its interior surface to produce a measurement of wall thickness. The two way duration of travel, divided by the known sound velocity through that particular metal, provides a thickness measurement equally accurate to a micrometer reading.

Penetrant Testing (PT):

 

Liquid penetrant testing is yet another form of nondestructive testing used for finding surface defects only.  Penetrant testing is a physical and chemical test used for detecting and making visible to the naked eye surface related discontinuities in non-porous materials.

Solvent removable penetrant is the most common application.  Evaluation is made with white ambient light.

Water washable penetrant is a rapid and effective means of inspecting large areas or in locations where the solvent would have an injurious effect upon the material or personnel. The inspection is usually made with white light.

Fluorescent penetrant removable both by solvent or water and with evaluation made under ultraviolet light is the most sensitive of the penetrant methods for inspection. A darkened environment is necessary for inspection under the black light.
